Workshop Challenges city and energy, May 21, 2019, Madrid
On the occasion of the meeting of the participating partners in the European research project SABINA in Madrid, the University of Navarra organizes 21/5/2019 an open workshop where the current Spanish and European energy context and the energy challenges they face will be discussed. The SABINA Project (SmArt BI-directional multi eNergy gAteway, https://sabina-project.eu/), funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, responds to the current need to add flexibility to the European energy system. SABINA aims at allowing a massive integration of intermittent renewable energy sources on the grid by taking advantage of the cheapest possible source of flexibility: existing thermal inertia in buildings.
In Spain, the recent approval of Royal Decree 244/2019, of April 5, which regulates the administrative, technical and economic conditions of the electric power self-consumption, is an important boost to the self-consumption of renewable energies. On this workshop it will be discussed how to maximize the self-consumption of renewable energy to achieve the objectives of the European Union for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The workshop has a first block where speakers at European level, large companies in the Spanish energy sector and architects of recognized prestige in the field of energy efficiency, will participate in a panel discussion providing their vision of the current energy scenery and the challenges of the near future linked to the Spanish and European energy system. In a second block, the SABINA project will be presented as an example of response to this energy context.
